Is SSF Right for You?

What makes Simple Solutions Fitness different from other gyms in Columbia, MO?

We've built our studio around what actually works for sustainable fitness, not trendy workouts, add-on services, or quick fixes. Here's what makes us unique:

You'll love working out at SSF if:

  • You want a judgment-free zone: No mirrors, no supplement pushing, no diet talk, and absolutely no body shaming.
  • You missed the "learning to lift" phase of life or are returning to exercise after a break.
  • You prefer a small, private space over a crowded commercial gym.
  • You value evidence-based training over fad workouts and "switching it up" every couple weeks.

You won't have a great time working with us if:

  • Want a trainer who claims to be an expert in everything from nutrition to psychology - we refer out to trusted healthcare providers.
  • Expect drill sergeant-style motivation (we believe in building sustainable habits through autonomy, connection, and competence)
  • Are looking for the cheapest gym in Columbia (we're competitively priced for personalized training, but not the lowest cost option).

How much does a personal trainer cost?

Personal training is an investment in your health, and we believe in being upfront about our pricing while ensuring you get the right program for your needs. Our sessions start at $39.50, with final rates depending on:

  • Training format (one-on-one or small group)
  • Session frequency (1-3x per week)
  • Length of commitment (12-week or 12-month)

We begin with a 21-day trial period so you can experience our training style and make sure we're the right fit. During your consultation, we'll discuss your goals and recommend the most cost-effective program to achieve them - often requiring fewer sessions per week than most people expect.

We also offer flexibility for students, those relocating for work, or other life changes. Let's talk about what would work best for you.

How old do I have to be to work out with you?

We've worked with clients of a wide age range, as young as 12 and as old as 76 (and counting). If you're under the age of 18 we require parental consent. Personal training is safe for individuals of all sizes, ages, and genders across the lifespan with appropriate modifications.

Personal Training FAQs

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first visit starts with a friendly conversation about your goals and experience level. Once you start training, we'll do a movement assessment to understand your current fitness level and any limitations. Then we'll guide you through some basic movements to get you comfortable with our training style. There's no pressure to perform - this is about finding your starting point.

How long is each session? How often should I see a personal trainer?

Sessions are about an hour long, with some flexibility - you can arrive up to 10 minutes early and up to 15 minutes late. Most programs take 45-60 minutes.

For frequency, 2x per week is what current scientific guidelines recommend as a good minimum. Most people notice differences in energy, sleep, and mood within 3-6 weeks. If you're looking for a starter amount of confidence and routine, you might work with a trainer for 3-6 months (or shorter).

For more, try reading this long-form article on how long you might want to see a personal trainer.

What should I wear to my personal training visit?

You should wear something respectful that you feel comfortable in that also allows you to move freely. If you're not sure, feel free to reach out and ask for more specifics.

Do you help with workouts outside of the studio?

Yes! We love keeping you active and tell clients that they have 4 options when it comes to staying active outside of the studio:

  1. If you come in 1 or 2x per week, you have access to a third workout that you can do on your own.
  2. If your goal is to build up your confidence outside of the studio, repeat one of the workouts you do with us using the same sets and reps and 10-15% less weight.
  3. Ask us about paying a nominal fee for additional programming outside the studio. We have some clients who would like to work out more often but need accommodations to do so elsewhere.
  4. We can program your workouts for you through online personal training if you don't see yourself making it in.

Are you shoe free? Do you workout barefoot? I don't see a lot of shoes

We try to be when we can! Your feet have sensory organs in them that help you keep your balance. By taking your shoes off you're helping to increase the coordination and strength of your feet and ankles.
